Southeast Testament (SET) is a nonprofit community organization dedicated to helping residents in 23 counties within Central and Southeastern Ohio. Formed in March of 2005, SET's mission partners include Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna, OH, Sojourner’s Care Network in McArthur, Ohio and numerous volunteers from Central Ohio and across the country.  SET is an organization with short term goals of collecting and delivering furniture, clothing, and household items to the needy.

In October 2007, SET built a 6,700 sq. ft. facility in Vinton County, Ohio to support three main goals for providing assistance to the needy:

  • Provide furniture, appliances, clothes and household items
  • Support programs that address the root causes of poverty and high unemployment, in addition to supporting disaster recovery efforts such as fire, flood, and general family assistance
  • Provide accommodations that support service project mission trips to the SE Ohio area

In March 2009, Lutheran Social Services opened offices in the Vinton County SET Distribution Center which operated until July 2017. Oversight of SET Distribution Center operations have since transitioned to Sojourner Care Network of McArthur, Ohio (SOJO), and the SET / SOJO partnership continues to grow stronger. Sojourner’s Care Network, with a staff of 22, has been serving in the SE Ohio area for 19 years . In addition to oversight of SET operations, SOJO supports foster care, adoptions, street outreach, victim assistance, supportive housing, and many other initiatives addressing the root causes of poverty in the region.

The SET Vinton County Distribution Center now houses the SOJO Basic Family Center which has a staff of two, and supports families within the five county area. SOJO also manages the SET warehouse which donates furniture, appliances, and household items to clients in the area.

SET is excited about this new partnership which leverages the strengths of both organizations for the greater good of the community.
